Team: Hula Honeys
Position: Blocker 1 or Blocker 2
Favorite drink: Coffee, water, Blue Moon Ale or Vodka Soda
Hobbies: Besides derby- hanging out with my kids, reading when I have time, attempting to be crafty, going to shows and hanging out with friends when I get the chance.
JCRG: How did you come up with your derby name and what does it mean to you?
RR: My mom actually came up with my name. I had a long list of names and it sounded the best and I like the name Ruby.
JCRG: How long have you been skating?
RR: I started skating for Derby back in April 2006. Growing up I just went to the school skating parties and whatnot. Nothing serious though.
JCRG: What committee do you belong to, and what is your function?
RR: Well, I just finished 2 years on the BOD as Secretary. So I made sure everything was organized and on schedule (for the most part). I took notes at meetings, typed them up and distributed to the team captains/league, managed the league calendar, collected committee reports, ran league surveys, scheduled meetings.. just a small sample of what I did. I'm also on Events committee and help plan events. This year, I'm looking forward to just skating and helping out where I can for events.
JCRG: Why did you join derby?
RR: I was looking for something to do for myself that was fun and also good exercise. I was convinced to go to an open practice for Dockyard with Nova Payne. We went together and I was hooked from the first practice. Little did I know that we'd start and run our own league. The rest is history.. It was certainly crazy at times, but I wouldn't change a thing!!
JCRG: What is your favorite aspect of derby?
RR: It's so much fun and I'm always learning something new! I get to hang out with awesome ladies (love you hulas!!) 2 or more times a week! I love that I learned that I can actually play a sport and have fun doing it! I was never into sports when I was younger, so this was completely new to me.
